| Who | Strange Bedfellows: Expressionism, Folk, and Dada in Schulhoff's "Concertino" |
| When | Monday, April 9, 2012 7:00pm - All Ages |
| Where | 50 Oak Street San Francisco, CA, United States 94102 |
| Other Info | Sponsored by my nonprofit organization Useful Music Productions, this free lecture recital discusses my research and findings on the fascinating "Concertino for Flute, Viola, and Doubleblass," written by Erwin Schulhoff in 1925. Often categorized as a Holocaust composer, Schulhoff lived in a tremendously exciting time and place for art music - 1920's Germany and Czechoslovakia - where several artistic trends interacted across genres. His "Concertino" deftly blends these trends while using an unusual, yet effective instrumentation. The lecture recital will feature Carmen Lemoine on flute and piccolo, Jodi Levitz on viola and Scott Pingel on bass, playing musical examples interspersed throughout the lecture, and a complete performance of the piece at the end. Admission is free. |
