Philosophy
Dr. Carmen Lemoine’s teaching philosophy emphasizes learning music in the same way that we learn language. We don’t learn to read before learning to listen and talk, so why should we learn to read music first before training the ear and instrument? It’s an interactive approach that mixes flute fundamentals with improvisation, when appropriate. If a student is at a more advanced level, this work will be integrated into a strong program of technique-building, repertoire and performance.

The most important goal of learning how to play the flute is learning how to perform in such a way that communicates what you love about the music, to share with the audience what is great about the piece. That means not just learning scales and developing your tone, but most importantly hearing and experiencing music at a deeper, less superficial level.

Pricing
Carmen has taught children as young as 8 to adults as old as 80. All ages, all levels welcome.

The first lesson is a 30-minute trial lesson, which as such is free. Once lessons begin, the rate is $65/hour, $55/45 minutes, and $45/half-hour, due monthly.
